red onions

From: Dagele Brothers Farm (Integrated Pest Management in Florida, NY)

.Sweetness is the red onion’s greatest strength. The sharpness of its flavor and the intensity of its smell are slightly more potent than that of the white onion, but the sugar content is much higher. That natural sweetness makes them a prime candidate for pickling, which we love to do when tacos, pizza, or fried rice are involved.

green bell peppers

From: Dagele Brothers Farm (Integrated Pest Management in Florida, NY)

"The green bell pepper is a sweet pepper picked before ripening from a plant belonging to the Solanaceae family. As it ripens, the fruit turns yellow, orange, and then red. However, there are bell pepper varieties that remain green when fully ripened.

beefsteak tomatoes

From: Dagele Brothers Farm (Integrated Pest Management in Florida, NY)

A beef tomato or beefsteak tomato is one of the largest varieties of cultivated tomatoes, some weighing 450 grams or more. Most are pink or red with numerous small seed compartments distributed throughout the fruit, sometimes displaying pronounced ribbing.

black eggplant

From: Dagele Brothers Farm (Integrated Pest Management in Florida, NY)

Eggplants should be firm and somewhat heavy for their size, with smooth, glossy skin and an intense purple hue. Avoid any that appear withered, bruised, or discolored. Eggplant can have a slightly bitter taste. “Sweating” an eggplant with salt will draw out moisture and some compounds that contribute to the bitterness, ultimately making the flesh more tender.

honeycrisp apples

From: Migliorelli Farm (Family Farm in Red Hook, NY)

Honeycrisps are a near-perfect apple. And with good reason; the Honeycrisp is a near-perfect raw apple. It is fantastically crisp, thanks to larger individual cells within its flesh, and it boasts a delicate sweet-tart balance and a light berry flavor.

butterhead lettuce

From: SAF Produce (Hydroponic in Albany, NY)

Butterhead lettuce is generally grown to full-size heads and receives its name from the sweet buttery flavor and delicate texture of the large, ruffled outer leaves. Cutting into the lettuce reveals a soft, folded, and blanched heart.

bosc pears

From: Migliorelli Farm (Family Farm in Red Hook, NY)

Bosc pears have a more firm, dense flesh than other pear varieties, so they are ideal for use in baking, broiling or poaching. They retain their shape and texture better than other varieties, and their flavor is less likely to be overwhelmed by the use of strong spices like cinnamon, clove or nutmeg.

oranges

From: (Product of Ecuador)

Oranges are among the world's most popular fruits, as they're both tasty and nutritious. They are a good source of vitamin C, as well as several other vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. For this reason, they may lower your risk of heart disease and kidney stones.

fuji apples

From: Migliorelli Farm (Family Farm in Red Hook, NY)

Sweet and crisp, these apples will disappear quickly from your refrigerator. Slice thinly and toss in a salad.

petite bananas

From: (Product of Ecuador)

Baby bananas or petite bananas wear a thin, bright yellow signature peel. As their name suggests, they are petite in size, averaging only three to four inches in length. Baby bananas have a very dense creamy texture and once ripe their flavor is rich and sweet with vanilla and caramel undertones.
